Special Friends:

Coalition for Kids adopted the Special Friends program in 2004. This is a program for at-risk elementary and middle school children. An "early positive experience in school" indicates a high probability of graduating. Special Friends is helping to facilitate that positive experience. We serve over 100 children each year in 12 schools throughout Josephine County.

The program places a volunteer with a child for the school year. The volunteer comes into the school one time per week for 45 minutes and shares a play time with the child. The benefits to the child and the volunteer are amazing at times.
